Curatorial Remarks

Note

Miscellaneous: Bamboo-turned legs and stretchers point toward a date rather late in 18th. century, or well into 19th. However, bamboo turnings seem to have appeared in Windsors as early as the 1760's, although more common later. Such turnings not infrequently associated with chairs mediocre in proprtion and detail. Faxon not listed in Antiques Index, 1922-1957, 72 vols.; not listed in Bjerkoe, "Cabinetmakers of America".
