General Notes

Note Type

Curatorial Remarks

Note

Miscellaneous: Turned wooden bellows, even without decorative facing, fairly rare, especially those earlier than the 19th. century. Such bellows, with carved decoration, were made in this country by Samuel McIntire of Salem; and turned wooden bellows, probably imported from England, were sold by Paul Revere. Workmanship and elegance of SS.61.87 perhaps point to a European origin, probably England, but possibly Holland. Similar in general shape & type to SS.61.86. Neg. No. 1870.
