Curatorial Remarks

Note

The pair of benches were originally thought to have been designed by Washington Irving. After examining the actual letter written to George Harvey by Irving (Berg Collection, New York Public Library), it is apparent that the sketch of the bench was made by George Harvey, not Irving [Kate Johnson, 2003].

General Note

Note

During Jessa Krick's time at HHV, there has been some interest by outsiders in recreating these benches for sale by outsiders, including a visit from one person (brought in by Christopher Radko); any plan involved dismantling a bench or sending one to China to create a mold is impossible. John Danza of Munder Skiles (garden furniture maker/ reproduction garden furniture maker) in Garrison also expressed interest in the chairs in 2018, and contacted HHV for additional information.
