Description

Rococo Revival style bookcase, painted ivory with multicolored decorations of flowers and garlands with gilt edges and lines. Ornately carved pediment with rippled arches, flanking a simple cartouche along the back sides of a flat top. The entire front of the bookcase opens to reveal six shelves. The front of the bookcase is recessed glass in a wooden frame or door with leaded glass in diamond and trapeziodal shapes. Each corner of the front is decorated with a garland. The center top and bottom of the frame are decorated with a recessed oval, each decorated with a single flower. The base flares out slightly and has two flat S-curves end-to-end in the front. The base rests on flat bracket feet. Both sides of the bookcase have long, wide recessed panels extending the height of the case. Each panel has a scroll design at the top and bottom with a round knob. At the center of each panel is a raised cartouche or boss with a central oval decorated with a single flower. This piece is very similar to MP.94.1002 in its carving and decorations.
