These two bookends are cast bronze with an Egyptian motif. The top has the appearance of a frieze from Egypt that is decorated with the Ra Sun in the center and the wings of Horus(?) spreading from either side as rays. Either end is decorated with Lotus leaves. Below this is a side view of the Sphinx with Lotus plants, stems, flowers, and buds on either side of the Sphinx. Boadering the sides are two stalks or reeding bound together at four sites. the surface appears to have been painted on certain highlighted areas and the bottom is felted.
