Description

Rectangular color lithograph of "Bridge on the Croton" with men walking near and on the bridge: scene along the Croton River on a sunny day with two men and a dog standing on a road in the foreground; both men wear top hats, trousers, and a jacket - one red, one blue; the man in red has his left arm raised; behind these figures, two other men walk on the road; one is dressed similarly to the first two men and wears a blue coat while the second man wears a red riding jacket, black boats, white pants, and a hat; the road curves behind a a hill that is green with vegetation; a man in red-and-blue worker's clothing stands behind a tree on this hill and behind him are two grazing deer; on the other side of the road is the Croton River in which is a small sailboat; a bridge with rectangular brick foundations traverses the river and three men stand on it. the background consists of another large green hill on which are trees, a fence, two brown wooden "barn-like" structures and three men who appear to be either working on the land or climbing up the hill; image is surrounded by a cream border and has "State of New-York" in capital letters top center and "BRIDGE ON THE CROTON" and "40 miles N. of New-York" (the latter in cursive letters) in bottom center; in the corners below the image to the viewer's left and right sides are "J. Milbert del:" and "Lith: de C: Motte", respectively. Lithograph is in light wood, modern frame.
