Curatorial Remarks

Note

Scene represented is that of Christ and the Woman of Samaria (John IV:1-42). Christ, seated at the Well of Jacob in Samaria, requests of a woman, who approaches with a pitcher, a drink; she is surprised, as Jews and Samaritans generally have little to do with each other. Christ reveals his knowledge of her past life (5 husbands, etc.), and she is convinced he is the Messiah, goes to summon the rest of the community, etc., after Christ offers living waters to quench thirst everlastingly, etc.
