My dear Sir
Your letter of 1s [??] reached me yesterday Sunday, / with the Cosario’s receipt [forth Box, with Guia?] /
I have seen our Administrator this morning / who says he has received the order, and afsures me that there will be / no impediment to my taking possession of the Box on arrival and of / embarking it without intervention or inspection on the part of the Customs. / I was on a visit home when Mr [Vail’s?] things came down, or perhaps / might have prevented their being meddled with, though in reality, there / was considerable tenacity shown by the Customhouse here even in face / of the order from Madrid similar + supposed to that ifsued in the present / instance. Now, I think, all is arranged properly _
I have no idea that I shall be able to send the Box to / New York before next month as I know of no vefsel soon expected _ we usually have one here however about the 4t July.
Mr. Calderon has not communicated with me in / any Way. __
This will reach you ere you leave Madrid _ when / I ship your Box (taking care to change the addrefs) I will inform / you thereof, as requested, through Mr Miller.
Allow me to wish you a pleasant journey + a quick / pafsage acrofs: + do not go in the Large Iron Boat _ It would give me pleasure to hear form you on arrival, and there you will always apply / to me when I can be of use to you. With esteem I am /
Yours truly
George Read
