Description

A classically inspired candleholder of a dolphin standing on its head. It is a brass candlestick with a bulbous candle socket (turned). This is placed atop an acanthus-leaved round capital; this atop the dolphin's tail which curls and shows its back fin which is splayed vertically. The tail is scaled; a dorsal fin is shown on the back. There is also a fin atop of the head; the nose of the head is on the base. The eyes are deep set with thick brows. The base is eliptical with an acanthus leaf design around the base. Two small ribs are near the head on the base to act as support. There is a white, 6 3/4" long candle in the socket. A screw is bolted at the bottom of the base. A brass peg helps to support it.
