Curatorial Remarks

Note

Miscellaneous: "D. Coutant" has occasionally and mistakenly been misread as "D. Goutong" or "D. Coutong" who branded each corner block, maker rather than owner, although not found in lists of American cabinetmakers. Several chairs from Philipsburg Manor, Sleepy Hollow, also by Coutant. Uneven sides of upper part of splat characteristic; found also in VC.58.247.
