Description

An oak, flat-back chair with a top frieze of seven spool-like 2" spindles between reeded stiles which are supported between the side supports. Below this, three reeded square shafts connect the reeded lower rail back support. The trapezoidal seat, which is 18", has a beveled edge. Contained in the seat is an octagonal pattern popular in English caning. A square tapered leg meets the seat with a horizontal reeded support. The leg at top has two bands, one atop the other, and then three small holes in a row and another horizontal band under it. Midway down the leg is another reeded horizontal stretcher on the top and bottom. The front legs are joined to the back legs by a horizontal stretcher that has had its corners removed. In between the two supports is another horizontal band with its removed corners. The back of the chair is at a slant to the rest of the chair. The stretchers and turnings are of mahogany.
