Curatorial Remarks

Note

Two of the set (SS.89.15 & 20) were in the exhibition "Visions of Washington Irving" 10/91-12/91; see bibliography tab for these two records (or Visions catalog) for more information. Boscobel curator Jennifer Carlquist came to Sunnyside for a research appointment and thought these chairs were very quirky and unusual. She thought the seats had been replaced (they would have had rush seats originally) and that they might have been Connecticut chairs painted in New York, although there is nothing to identify the scenes as specifically Hudson River Valley [Jessa J. Krick, Collections Manager, 11/8/2016].
