Framed pen and ink drawing of a chipmunk by John Ross Delafield as a youth during the 1880's. Color was added by the use of watercolor. The chipmunk faces left with front paw raised. It stands in a landscape and is colored mostly brown with a lighter belly and a white stripe on its side. An unusual bluish-grey band is observed on the chipmunk's back between two thinner bands of dark brown. The drawing isn't matted or mounted; however, a simple penciled rectangle does act to frame the pictorial scene. The actual frame is made of wood painted gold, carved with a stylized floral motif alternating between small and elongated flowers. the drawing is backed by a stiff paper (possibly manila) and hung by a piece of twine fastened to eyescrews.
