Description

Small covered handled tulip-shaped cup, of white porcelain with slightly greyish cast, decorated in blue and gold; somewhat uneven ("orange peel") surface; decorated in blue and gold. Domed cover, surmounted by berry finial with leaves; gold rim, blue border with gold-scalloped red line above. Cup has one handle, intertwined, and tilted upward, with touches of gold, and at junctures of handle and body, composite flowers, touched with blue and gold; about cup at top, serpentine line, of chevron pattern, half gold, half blue; opposite handle, pseudo-armorial crest with monogram "E S C" within spade-shaped shield set against ermine mantling, with gold tasseled and fringed blue drapery having Louis XVI bow-knots, one blue, one gold, at top and directly above shield. Owners' monogram: "E S C"
