Description

A Sixty dollar Continental currency bill: Front side has borders on four sides; top border on a scroll "THE UNITED STATES" and between folds of scroll "LX" "SIX / TY / DOLLARS" "LX" and "60"; right bordr has "OF NORTH AMERICA" with flower between "OF" and "NORTH"; second row is "SIXTY DOLLARS" on scroll and "60" "LX" "DOLL"; bottom border has "LX" "THE" "UNITED"(ON SCROLL) "STATES"; left border continues with "OF NORTH AMERICA" on wrapped banner on a red printed rod and "SIXTY DOLL" with "ARS" on downwards slant at end; below "LX" and "60" on upward slant at end; paper contains mica flakes and blue threads and a watermark "CONFED / RATION"; under top border is handwritten currency number "50901" in red ink; rows of print as follows "SIXTY DOLLARS / THE Bearer is entitled to receive Sixty / Spanish milled dollars / or a Sum in Gold / or Silver, according to / a Resolution of Con- / gress of the 14th Ja- / nuary, 1779 / 60 Dollars"; to the left of the text is a cut circular bordered emblem of a globe within a red printed square; the border motto "DEUS REGNAT EXULTET TERRA"; below text are two signitures "Lo Sprogell" in red ink and "Jno Lawrence" in dark brown ink; on back within leafy borders is a nature print of two leaves; below top border is "Sixty Dollars"; below nature print is "Printed by HALL and / SELLERS. 1779."

Remarks: On front vertical crease ot 1 13/16" from left corner; print loss along crease on back side; 1/32" hole at 2" from left and 2 11/16" from top; small ink spash from first signer at 1 1/2" from left and 2 3/4" from top; small black spot at 1 3/16" above top border; on back a handwritten note "Kirk June 23"; surface paper loss of 3/8"x1/2" at 1 3/8" from left and 3/4" from top; surface paper loss of 1/4"x5/8" at 2" from left and 3/4" from top; surface paper loss 1/8"x3/16" at 2 1/2" from left and 7/16" from top; surface paper loss of 1/4"x1 1/8" at 1" from left and 3 1/4" from top; 1/2" scotch tape pieces on left border at 3/4" and 3" from top; surface discoloration.
