Note

From the object folder (believed to be information presented to the HHV board at the time of the gift): "Research continues on this fascinating image of Washington Irving. It may well prove to be a daguerreotype taken by John Plumb sometime during the 1850s. It was later copied by Brady Studios via a wet plate process. The reversed image of the Brady Studios portrait is perhaps the most famous likeness of the author." [Jessa J. Krick, 1/7/2015].
