Description

Rococo Revival style drop-front desk: painted ivory with multicolored decorations of flowers and garlands with gilt edges and lines. Ornately carved pediment with rippled arches flanking a simple cartouche along the back and sides of a flat top. The desk opens to reveal a carved arch across the top, a five inch shelf with one long drawer under it (carved and painted to look like two drawers) that has two metal tabs to serve as handles to pull the drawer, a felt writing surface. Below the desk are two square doors, each has a keyhole, a recessed center and a raised cartouche or boss with a floral design. The bottom doors reveal two shelves. The base flares out slightly and has two flat S-curves end-to-end in the front. The base rests on flat bracket feet. Both sides of the desk have long, wide recessed panels extending the height of the desk. Each panel has a scroll design at the top and bottom with a round knob. At the center of each panel is a raised cartouche similar to the on the doors below the desk. Each is decorated with a single flower.
