My Dear Child,_
I have yesterday for the first time / left my bed where I have been confined for twelve / days, after sustaining a severe attack of the gout in / my head Stomach and limbs._ which continued for three / days with excruciating torment, _
The engagements I made with those to whom your / Brother Renfselaer was indebted, now prefs severely upon / me as the call for payments, which It is not in my / power immediately to comply with. how much this / Effects me is not easily to be described, I therefore intreat / you, to make a Journey exprefs to the Manor of Cortlandt / and If pofsible to sell the two farms, for the best price / you can in ready money, or at least as much ready money / as can be attained, and to let me know the result afsoon / as possible,_
M~Morton and Your sister leave this to morrow, his / conduct whilst here has been as usual, most prepoterous / seldom an evening at home, and seldom even at dinner,_ / I have not though It prudent to say the least word / to him on the Occafsion, as advice on such an irregular / character is thrown away, _ Your Mama & sisters unite / with me in love to You, to Sally & the Children
I am my Dear Son / your affectionate parent
