TRANSCRIPTION ACCOUNT BOOK OF AN UNIDENTIFIED DUTCH TRADER, 1679-1690 Kees-Jan Waterman Haarlem The Netherlands November 8, 2015   COVER AND DESCRIPTION The item has been rebound in a blue leather cover. The front carries a golden imprint: DUTCH TRADER’S ACCOUNT BOOK 1686-1689 In actuality, the accounts in the volume date from the period 1679-1690, as correctly indicated in the item’s description by Historic Hudson Valley. The item contains twelve leaves; the pages are unnumbered. For the transcription and translation, page numbers have been allocated (between square brackets). The layout of the original has been retained as much as possible. This also includes crossed-out text. It contains only accounts of Native American patrons, except for one with Abraham Cuijler (listed as Abram kuijler) on page [1]. The general condition of the rebound manuscript is good. Some of the edges are worn and slightly torn, and one page lacks about two-thirds of its original size, the remainder having been torn of. The leaves are glued into the center of the rebound volume by transparent tape, along a small strip on the verso side. As a result of this technique some text is covered by the tape, and is difficult to read (see for instance [22]). Editorial conventions: [ ] : text between brackets could not be read or reconstructed. [text] : additions to the original text; on occasion, comments on the layout of the original text. [sic] : obvious mistakes in spelling or in grammar. text : words or entries scratched out in the manuscript.   The first page in the volume was added during restoration work, it has remained unnumbered in this transcription. It carries the annotation: Restored In honor of Mrs. James Garfield Runyon by the National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America Mrs. Charles Payson Blinn, Jr., President Mrs. John
