My Dear Phil
Yours of the 3d Inst came to hand this moment and by / the god I swear that no letter I ever received before gave me half the / pleasure this does. although I feel humiliated on reflecting that I have / (in the agony of my Soul) been led to accuse a friend unjustly, yet the / knowledge of that even (however inconsistant it may appear) gives me / infinite Joy _ I am now restored to myself and feel sufficiently nerv'd / to face the whole host of Jacobinism_ tranquil and unmoved_ I now / know that twenty six years ago_ I was not deceived when I mark'd down / my then young friend as a man of Honor_ let this suffice . my spirits / are in considerable ag-[^it]-ation caused by a sudden transition from a sort of sullen / gloom occasioned by dispair of ever again, finding a man with whom I / could with safety injoy an interchange of sentiment but I thank god / that I was mistaken____ I shall not mention a Syllable on politicks, the / very word has almost become hateful and for fear that I might be led to [rov?-] / -ing again _ I will let the subject rest till I see you which - god willing / shall be somewhere about the middle of June - as soon as our Courts / are over (which come on the first and Second tuesdays in that month) / it is my intention to set out for New york and if I do - I shall not / fail to take Rhinebeck in my way and depend on you to have / me sent as paupers are to Poughkeepsie_ tell Mrs Schuyler I have / acted like a fool and am sorry for it _ and may the best of Heavens Bless- / -ings rest on you both_ I am yours as heretofore
