I would send a double portion of love were it possible / to send more than I felt before, but as I am sure / that I send no kisses, I wish that you would kiss / my little cousins all around for me _ Mary sends / her best love to you and thanks you kindly for / your letter, she says you need have no fear lest all / the cousinhood should be married before you see / them again _ Mary Stevens told me to send her very / best love to you when next I wrote __ It certainly . was a singular circumstance that I should have / neglected to mention Aunt Ann in my last / letter; it is it not more remarkable that since / [page torn] first letter which I receive dform you, not one / single word have you said of Alexander Watts? It / can scarce be possible that you have not seen him / since you parted on the Mississippi ________ To decipher / this letter you must first read the enclosed all through / and then this envelope __ ([Irish?] Bull _ like writing / “Private, Read to Yourself” in a Postscript) _ And now my / dear Emma as I am sure you cannot complain of the brevity of this letter, I must conclude with wishing you all / happiness and prosperity -
Believe me your truly attached
Cousin Phil
