Dear Father. We received a few days since / a letter from Mother Van Wyck, written by her / Secretary Pierre _ I have but little to add in / addition to my communication to Sister Joanna, / respecting our affairs, but am now on a money / Expedition _ In going to housekeeping, just so / many articles are needed and nothing less, and / then you can add form [^ time] to time, as you have a / mind and need. While in the City last, I / provided pretty abundantly and paid nearly as / I went. So that we now find ourselves most / comfortably provided for, but I could raise / but little more than $4,50- and leave a / small due of about $2.50. I want you / Dr Sir. to help me at this time to $100 / charging the same to my account, this will / relieve me of all immediate demands, upon / my purse. – + my salary. + income will be / sufficient for the rest as it comes due. / an [white paper folded over image] to ask for any / [white paper folded over image] to ask for any / [END OF PAGE 1] I have made it my rule thus far in life, to / purchase good articles, and we now have a Kind / + quality and a quantity, which I am confident / you would approve of. It was my desire + / intention, not to apply one dollar of this bond for / any thing else, than Kate’s particular use. She needs / a good watch and silver tea set, forthwith, but / her silver has encroached so much already / that she must wait sometime . before she / gets either of them, apart from these luxuries / she wants nothing, for a year to come. There are two demands , of a little / more than a hundred dollars ៱ which I ought / at once to cancel. It is for these I write for / aid, from you. I hope you can make it / convenient before December first. In the Spring, you must bring Mother / Van Wyck . West with you . + leave her with / us, while you so on to Syracuse. Our house is really quite handsomely fitted up. We / are waiting patiently for the Camp chair, it / will be quite an addition to our merry little / [^ antiquities]-curiosities _ which my wife + myself have to / show. – Affectionately, Your Son [white paper folded over text] [END OF PAGE 2] Both these demands are in Rome. + one is occasioned / by an assignment. And the consequent necessary / Rapid settlement of affairs _ I am most anxious / not to hear from them again __ and still more / to be entirely out of debt. S. H. B.
