My Beloved Child
I wrote you yesterday _
This morning Gen’ Hamilton & Mr. Church solicited me in / favor of the connection between your sister + Mr Malcombe / suggesting the little probability there was of ultimately / preventing, afsuring me that on the strictest inquiry / they had found his moral character correct and / unblemished and believing with them that no effectual / apposition could be made. I judge it most prudent that / my child should not be driven to despair, to acquiesce / In their wishes, which was supported by your sisters _ / having gained this point from me, they informed / me that they believed the marriage had actually / taken place, prudence suggests the propriety of / withholding any painful comments on the subject, I have / therefore written my Child an affectionate letter, and / whilst a[ched?] for for such an impatient step / without my knowledge , I freely forgive the impropriety / and afsure her that she is still still dear to the heart / of her fond parents, and this will restore peace / to her mind Adieu God befs you + yours
Yours evermore, most affectionately
Ph: Schuyler
