I received your letter some time since and have no / good excuse to make for not answering it before but your goodness / I hope will excuse me knowing as you do my unconquerable / aversion to letter writing, My time is chiefly employed in / in studying french and drawing landscapes for the last / I [^ have] received many compliments from my teacher and the / young ladies who attend school with me. Mr Smith is con - / sidered the first teacher in the country and has not been / long returned from Boston, therefore his school at present is / not large but receives an addition of one or two ladies weekly.
The weather has been very severe so that I have not been much / abroad except to attend school and since the cold has [abated] / the walking is very wet which will continue to prevent / my going out. We attend St Thomas’ church and as it is sit - / uated directly opposite us we are very regular in going. / Sunday before last Mr Griffin son of Mr George Griffin / gave us the xx??xx the most elegant discourse that / I ever heard he is very young and is an delicate in appea - / rance as a female his talents are considered very fine / Mr Griffin preached by in vitation from Mr Duffie who / is the settled clergyman I frequently see Uncle Samuel / and Aunt Mary _ They are very well and give me prefsing / invitations to visit them uncle Nathaniel and family / are also very well. Their house in Dey Street they have /
