My Dear Catharine
We have begun a New Year / but you have received no letter from your Aunt who / certainly intended that the old year should bear record / to the performance of her promise - I received your / Mama’s letter last night and as I have only time to / write one letter I must answer some of her letter in / yours. Your mama enquired anxously after your aunt / Julianna I have heard nothing directly from the family / but learn that Julianna’s arrangement is on religious / subjects and that she thinks she has had a revelation. /
I can but hope that the almighty is leading her to / see the insufficiency of riches and pleasures and leading / her to the great source of comfort and happiness. We heard / that she went to Mr Condit telling him she came to him / as the Lord Jesus to protect her from her husband who / wishes to poison her. I think it very strange Nath. does / not write us _ If I hear any thing more I will write .
I should go to East Hampton were it not for the baby / I hope my dear Catherine my lay her foundation
[END OF PAGE 1]
On the rock of ages that when the storms and troubles of / this world assail her she will have God for her portion / and her strong refuge ____ Little Fanny grows very / fast she is very fat and would play for you now. _ She is a / great amusement to me. _ I heard from Miss [Tosdick?] today / she is well and in good spirits / Miss [Pakes?] is here by my / elbow she sends her love to you: Do write and often dear / Catherine I shall expect you to come and see me next / summer ___ My love to your papa and mama and / sisters ___ Your affectionate Aunt
