KEYWORDS discussion about political appointments for ?? party
Mount Pleasant 10th March
1809
Dear Gen’l
I have this moment been informed that Jefse / [Pimmons] one of the Justices of the Town of Bedford is exceedingly / attached to our party, I Know him personally and am / clearly of the opinion that he ought to be continued / in the place of Lancelot G. McDonald who is upon the / list for that office and who is not aware that he / is to receive the appointment, I think it advisable at / all events that McDonalds appt should be deferred / until some future day that we may be Enabled to ascertain / which appointment will be the most advisable
You will have heard before or by the time this reaches / you the result of [lee’s??] county meeting thro’ some other channel / It was in a measure put down by the force that we mustered / from this peace. Youngs had become [banned??] because / his appointment was not made on the day that [Cooks] / was and had made up his mind to stay at [home] / I called upon him and told him that unlefs he / went to the meeting he might go to the D__l. that / if I had any influence to should be exerted against
[END OF PAGE 1]
Him and that he might rest afsured that he would / never received the Appt. that he ought at least to / merit it, before he put in his claim, at length he yielded / and I dispached [You] with him __ had he acted agreeably / to my advice there would have been an End to the meeting / But Munroe pofsefses so great an influence over him that / he was prevailed upon to consent to an adjournment / of the meeting. __ [Lee] appeared on the ground aided by / Doct. Quereau, Tompkins and two boys. [Y__s?] became / convinced that the step taken by [Lee] was not advisable / and deserted bus cause, as I am told the united force / of Munroe and [Lee] did not exceed six Voters [Owen?] / was on the ground and [done] his duty __ you may rest / afsured that those Gentlemen shall be put down __ / Youngs now declares that he will act [nobly??]
Respectfully
Yours –
