Dear Joanna,
Both your/letters have reached us, one,/giving an account of the journey of Mr and Mrs Bells and family,/the second telling of their very/sad loss, the dess of little/Sandy [?]. We can deeply sym-/pathize with them, Mrs Rattri[]/and children are now pretty/well, and progressing. I /thought it best to send you/a line to the above effect,/although I am ordered to be in /New York City in about two/weeks. The winter seems to/have taken its departure, the/streets are afloat.
