I did not intend my dear Emma to have/ delayed so long answering your letter and I am afraid / you will think that I did not ever mean to do it/ Pa has not yet come home I have just got a letter/ from him and from his sending me money I do not/ believe he means to come soon I shall be delighted to/ see Matilda for I am very lonesome and very tiered of/ being with only George./
Nance has another family of kittens Caty only kept/ two they are the great amusement of Billy he plays/ with them and makes them [holler] a great deal./ I have not seen Mary or Phil in a great while all/ winter I have taken Spanish lessons in the moring/ on Saturday which prevented my going for Mary and/ since I have left off every Saturday has been rainy./
Mr. Fields was here a few nights ago he said that/ he expects to [crossed out] go to Stockbridge the beginning of/ April so that Matilda will just miss him./
So Mr. Fairchild is engaged to Miss Jones I suppose/ since his engagement he rolls his eyes on her instead/ of rolling them on Matilda and you as he used to/ do
[END OF PAGE 1]
It is dark that I cannot see to write any more/ Give my love to your mother and Matilda/ Your affectionate aunt/
