Traver, “Mink” (enslaved or formerly enslaved), Rickert, Chancellor Livingston, Doctor [Bonds/Bards?] PLACES Troy, “Travers place”, the Fulling Mill, KEYWORDS Farmers Bank at Troy, [deer] season, chestnuts, shipped items, sale of Travers place, mill operations, flour, Rickert’s treatment, wind storm, chimney damage, Chancellor Livingston declining, cloth production, Rhinebeck December 3rd..1812 Dear Papa I this day rec’d your letter and I / am very sorry to find that you have not / rec’d a letter from me, which I sent you / some time past, for I enclosed a letter directed / to you which I took the liberty of opening and / as I found it might be of some consequence / to you therefore sent it on, also stating that I / had opened one from Jethro Bennet & that he / had deposited in the Farmers Bank at Troy / $171 for William & Abraham Bennet his sons. I sent your things by Capt Bergh two / weeks ago and he shipped them at New / York, I spoke to Mr. Schill in [deer] season / for your Chestnuts but as they were very / poor he said he would send you some good / ones from N.York and this day he told / me he would not [^get] any for you in that / place, I mentioned in my last that I had / rec’d a letter from Mrs [Suckly], I have rec’d / one since requesting me to forward the / First on to John + Catharine, but Poppy / here advised [^me] to keep them both until you / come out, she also requests answers [^from] me / [END OF PAGE 1] but Poppy advises me to have nothing to do with it, that / is not to answer them. I have not got any person yet to attempt / to purchase Travers place, I think it ought / to be a person who is now about purchasing / lands, and as Mr Wm Radcliff is a friend of mine / and is now buying up lands, I intend to speak to / him, I have no doubt but he will attempt and / I am sure Traver never would suspect him; / [Mink] has sufficient Water to run both Stones / but he has very little grain in at present, he / has not as yet disposed of your Flour ??, The Fulling / Mill is full of cloth so as to keep three hands / busily employed, as I have been down there / considerable lately and seen the treatment of / Rickert towards several of the respectable Farmers / of this Town, I think it would be best for you, [merely?] / to write to Mr Mink, as advice, to warn [^advise] Rickert to be / a little sociable to his customers, I have heard no / complaints about the drefsing of the Clothes but I / have heard some say that R was not very / accommodating + others say that he feels too / independant, that if the Mills did not belong / to you they would take their cloth away, Mr Sands / I believe has spoken to Rickert about it. Once / We are all very well here and unite in Love / to you, Mama & the Family. We had a very / [END OF PAGE 2] severe gale of wind here some time past, which has / done a great deal of damage in some places / it blew down my Fences and a few Bricks off of / one of my Chimneys the Bed room Chimney, / Chancellor Livingston is not expected to live from / one hour to another, I have understood that / Doctor [Bonds/Bards?] opinion is, that he cannot survive / more than a few days. your affectionate son Philip P Schuyler Philip J Schuyler Esqr Cambridge Request John to answer my letter, [END OF PAGE 3] [ADDRESS] Philip J.
