Madrid Monday Eve. Jan.y 23d 1843 My dear G: As I hope and expect that our dear girls are enjoying / themselves in New York when these letters arrive, I enclose you/ one for Molly _ I wrote you a long letter some days since by / this same packet, and have not heard from home in the interval: / I am not a little impatient as you will see to hear of your / movements _ For myself I have not led so quiet a life for a long / time, and I believe if I were now suddenly transported to New York, / I should be bewildered with the confusion and bustle around me _ / When the Masked Balls begin in about ten days. The fun as the / Jackass said commences in good earnest and the population runs riot / during the rest of the carneval _ There is to be shortly a splendid / ‘bal costume’ for which divers swarthy Spaniards are preparing to / figure as Scotchmen! In bare legs +c. What an exhibit it will be: / It has been decided among the diplomatic personages that is [“infra / diz”?] for them to appear in any other character, so we shall be saved / the trouble of this masquerading: I saw in a paper the other day the death of Mr. Robinson / at Newark: Is this your old friend + assistant “The Sheriff”? Commend me to all my old cronies at the club and / elsewhere _ My best love to Aunt Eliza + Robert. Yours ever A.H. [Gl.?] Schuyler Esq. New York Care of Mr John Miller Lo???
