My dear son
In my last letter written in / haste I presumed to write a long letter by the Great / Western but really my engagements are such / as not to permit me to Keep my promise I am / in town with Mama (at Fannys) to enable her to / purchase clothing for herself + children and am / my [point?] to make some [??] arrangements / in which I do not Think I can have any / difficulty _ the Eureka is on the water again / + will be [??] any day after tomorrow / on Tuesday or Wednesday I go again to Bridge - / port to complete the arrangements predicated / of the previous circumstances _ New projects / are on foot _ are a ferry between the City / and Staten Island _ another to send / the U.S. to run the outside passage / between Mobile + N.O. The last I do not / much approve the former [for [our] [hard] / means could be a good thing and / could be entirely within an [??t?].
I have written a letter to Mr. C Living - / ston thanking him with all my heart / for his kindness to you which I have felt in: /
