A monochromatic engraving of a naval battle at the point where the St. Lawrence is sinking the Privateer Petrel. Cannon smoke is still in the air from the U.S.S. St. Lawrence, as the crew of the Petrel are fleeing by swimming from their ship, whose masts are all that remain above sea level. The St. Lawrence has dropped its lifeboat to 'rescue' and take as prisoners the troubled crew of the Petrel.
