Curatorial Remarks

Note

Metal container with coals was placed within stove (which bears some charred areas from heat). Chip carving bears resemblance to chip-carved box in Ferry House Parlor, which was made in Hudson River Valley area. Not unfrequently, artisans from abroad practiced their art in America, passing their style on to their descendants. Metal handle unidentified. Condition needs to be checked. Relate to other chip carved item mentioned.
