Grey and black felt kepi; looks very similar to the kepi's worn by West Point cadets in the mid-19th century and worn by the Confederates during the Civil War. It is oval in shape with a pushed or leaning forward look. The crown is circular, the hat band is black; there is a small black leather bill or brim in front with a black leather strap resting on it. The strap extends around the front of the kepi only and is connected to the kepi by two brass buttons on either end. Both buttons have the U. S. coat of arms on them: An American eagle with war trophies. The inside has a brown leather band, a green ribbon at the back. There is a stainless steel safety pin inside the front of the kepi.
