Condition

Notes

Remarks: Canvas conserved by Felicity Campbell for the Winter Antiques Show; cleaned and re-varnished (see Treatment Report); frame was not conserved; small white round loss at center bottom of frame; gaps at frame corners more pronounced due to dry conditions at show; watch for condition changes: Mary Lou Davis examined the frame as part of the prep for Winter Antiques Show although she did no work to it; Davis said the corner mitres are coming apart, but it is completely stable and actually a great frame; it could be touched up on site, but nothing that would require major conservation work.1-20-2012

Notes

Remarks: Felicity Campbell examined the canvas for possible inclusion in the 2012 Winter Antiques Show Loan Exhibition: the canvas is already shiny, so varnish is not really the issue, it is very dark subject matter; there is very little surface dirt so cleaning is not necessary; there are some small white cracks that could be toned and a little light cleaning and revarnish is suggested but not absolutely necessary; Marylou Davis examined the frame: the frame is stable, although there are small gaps in the corners; holes (from an old repair that went a little too far) could be filled and a few other small touch-ups would make it just fine for display; this is a great frame for the piece [Jessa J. Krick, 9/8/2011].

Notes

Remarks: Details of condition: In need of cleaning and restretching; old repairs; some crackle.
