Note

Diebold Box #21 Label on back of mat from The Philadelphia Print Shop, Ltd. Says, "HUDSON RIVER, New York: Nathaniel Currier, 1835-46. [The Hudson River.} 16 x 4 1/8. Lithograph by Nathaniel Currier. With folds and minor wear. Overall, very good condition. An unrecorded map by Nathaniel Currier. Currier, best known for his 'popular' prints, is known to have issued only about a dozen maps total. Most of these were issued very early in his career, and it is likely that this map was printed before 1840. It shows the Hudson River from its mouth to Stillwater Falls. Counties and towns are indicated along its banks, as are distances from New York. The folds in the map indicate the map was issued in a small volume, perhaps a guide to the river."
