General Notes

Note Type

Curatorial Remarks

Note

Many such jugs and mugs exist, bearing scene entitled "Midnight Modern Conversation," and based, sometimes quite roughly, on the print of that title, c. 1732, by William Hogarth. Print shows tavern scene, with group of drinkers at able with punchbowl, etc. V. also: VC.59.161,162,515. N.B.: "Robert Dighton" not in any available list of potters.
