Note

Chester R. Faber, who has written The Cornwall Potters of Orange County, New York (a self-published work of research which he has compiled over the past 25 years) and is also a collector of examples of Cornwall pottery, contacted HHV for images of this jug in February 2018. Mr. Faber says he know of only two other examples of this style of jug by Nathan C. Bell and it is "quite rare," as are examples of Bell's work overall (the potter also has a Kingston mark, dating to the 1830-1834 period and he also did work on City Island, moving there 1846-47). See also the constitutent, Nathan C. Bell [Jessa J. Krick, Associate Dir. of Collections, 2/16/2018]. SS.62.560 bears one of the five known N.C. Bell potmarks that appear on Bell pieces from his Cornwall manufactory.
