Note

Accessioned in 2015, acquired earlier. Original source of the item is unknown, found in a box labeled "Toys and Games from Sunnyside." Attached label indicates this may have been a purchase from dealer Thurston Thacher in 1948. Note: object appears in Joseph Butler's book Candleholders in America (pg. 140) with the date of c. 1848, thus the date was updated in June 2015. See bibiliography for complete caption. This also indicates the objects has been in the collection since at least the book's publication in 1967. Hole in the bottom of the disk base was probably for a pin or tack to hold the candle in place.[Jessa J. Krick, Collections Manager, 9/10/2015].
