Troy Seminary July 3d . 1828 Thursday. My dear Mother I have not sat down to tell you my / doubts and hopes, fears and anxieties with regard to / the coming examination - for my examination is past / and instead of being examined as I expected, by a / Doctor of Metaphysica _ I have been examined by / a Doctor of Physics _ My health has not been very good / for two or three weeks _ but I attributed to the very / warm weather we have had __ and thought when / that was pafsed I should feel better _ if I did not / I expected to have seen Pa by this time ) and this / is the reason I have not told you before that I was / not quite well __ Aunt Abbey says she thinks I ought not to study any / more at present _ and I rather think so too – for it is / so near examination that if I studied at all I should / of course study hard __ I don’t know that I have / any particular disease about me _ only that my / nerves are weak _ and my appetite not very good __ / I think perhaps, a short journey _ about 170 miles, north / where the air is cooler and purer would be as / [END OF PAGE 1] Beneficial to me as anything _ I told one of the / young ladies this morning that I didn’t know how / to tell you I was sick _ but I think you must / understand it by this time __ I hope you will not feel at all alarmed about me / I go down stairs to all my meals and walk about house _ have not studied for five or six days _ / and am not allowed to go into the street _ though / I think it would not hurt me to walk as far as / Mrs [Covel’s?] _ I have spent only one afternoon with / Aunt Abbey since she has been here _ I hope / that tomorrow Mrs Williard will let me go and / spend the day with her _ I received a book / from Elbridge monday [^ Tuesday] evening and much obliged / to him for sending it _ but shall probably not be / about to use it _ Tell Annette I received her letter _ and at a time / when it did me a great deal of good __ / There is no school from now till Monday on / account of it’s [^being] 4th of July – and perhaps by / the time school begins again I shall be able / to study __ Your ever affectionate daughter Elizabeth Mrs. P. Fisk __ [END OF PAGE 2] [POSTMARK] 12 ½ [ADDRESS] Mrs. Phebe Fisk. Keeseville Efsex County New York. [LABEL] 1828 [POSTAGE STAMP - red ink, oval] TROY NY JUL 4
