My dear Sir: A gentleman / of reputation in Spain as / a writer wishes to send this / little work of his to Mr / Irving whom he knew while / Minister at Madrid, and / desires me to convey it to / some friend who will have / the kindness to present it for / him. I believe you know / the author of the History of [END OF PAGE 1] New York; and as I believe / can think of no one who can / better perform a little office / of this kind than the V. Pred, / of the Metropolitan Bank, / I have put the book under / envelope to come to you. I / must not forget to tell you, / that you may feel the impor- / tance of this business, that I / Senor [Guell?] y [Rente] is the / husband of the Infanta Josefa, / and was until the other day a / member of the Constituent Cortes / - dissolved by an act of arms. Yours ever truly Buckingham Smith [END OF PAGE 2] [I?] . Earl Williams Esq. New York
