Sunnyside, [Sun?]day Jan’y 9. 1848. for Sanders Irving.
My dear Father.
Two years ago I made / myself a New Years present of the / a copy of the accompanying work / on that beautiful psalm the / 23’d. I have found so much / pleasure + profit in the frequent / perusal that I thought I could / not make a better selection as / a token of my affectionate [??=man] / [hance] at New Year. There / is much in it peculiarly applied / to one in the decline of years.
Most truly yours
Pierre P. Irving
