My Dear Mackenzie, My delay in furnish = / ing you with the Statement desired, has not / been owing to neglect, but to the unaccounta - / ble absence of [?? Loring Borderard?] I take it / for granted he must have been absent from / home + that he has not received the sum - / mons. I greatly regret this, for he was / pofsefsed of many details which would have / confirmed the enclosed statement in the / most conclusively. The other young men / however are all well acquainted with / Spencer’s character, and if required would / speak very decidedly. Skinner has / heard him express the determination / of [securing?] a [pistle?], + Stanley is acquaint - ed with the fact of his having left “the Pi- / rate’s own Book” to the Englossian Society / with his autograph upon [alland] page. [END OF PAGE 1] My own testimony [??-med] only be offer - / ed in relation to the general character / of the young man. The fact of his / having presented himself to me as a can - / didate for the [St?-y?] Communion [^ can] only / [exhibit] his duplicity when taken / in connection with [Bordward’s?]. / Besides considering the confidential na - / ture which belongs to all interviews be - / tween a clergyman + his parishioners, + / moreover, the connexcion which is known / to exist between you + myself, I should / doubt very much the wisdom + proprie- / ty of my bing brought forward except / in case of the last necessity. I am, My Dear Mackenzie With the most sympathy + regard Faithfully your friend Pierre P Irving Sunday morn’g [END OF PAGE 2] P.P. Irving [ADDRESS] Commander A. S. MacKenzie U.S. Brig Somers.
