New York 28 West 22d Dec 18 / 95 Dear Martha We received Katie’s / letter Monday morning with the / bill receipted [??] [Holdens?]. / I now enclose you three dollars / to get your [??day] for Christmas / and I hope you will all keep / well and able to enjoy it, The / weather has been very pleasant / lately so we have been able to / go our a little but today it / is foggy and damp so we have / not ventured out. I have / no doubt he [^ Mr. ?Tappan?] thinks it strange to / [paper] in the winter but we / wanted it done now, but we / [END OF PAGE 1] Do not want the quilts and / pillow cases put [in] yet - we / will let you know when to do / it. I presume you are thinking / about what you will do. When / you have to [leave] our good / home. I have no doubt it will / be a great [treat] to you, as well / as it has been to us. But I hope / you will be able to fix yourselves / as you would like, and all be / happy again. I do not allow / myself to think of the fo future / but hope we have done all for / the best. I wish you would / tell [Joe] not to get [hay] by the / [/-ad] if he [wants] any only / get it by the [??] as we are / in hopes of selling the house / but that is all [left] for Mr [END OF PAGE 2] Morgan to attend to. They / do not want us to worry about / anything, so have left every thing / for Mr Morgan to attend to. We / hear from Mrs Grinnell [every?] / [week?] she is very well and / always wants to be remembered / to you all. We will send a / small parcel by exprefs on / Monday, you must keep an / account of all you have to / spend for us. And I will repay / you. Remember us to all that / are with you.
