NEW YORK July 27 1894
Dear Mrs Irving
I was very glad to hear / this morning that you had gone out / to your church _ I called to leave / a copy of the photograph of my / office which was taken in May last / I think the likeness of my Uncle / is quite a good one + I intend to / have a photograph taken from it _
I have two copies of this photograph / so I will gladly give this one to you / The gentleman sitting by his side is / his nephew Mr Irving Van Wart / You can see from the picture how / our desks were arranged & there he / has [sat] daily opposite one another /
[END OF PAGE 1]
for the past twenty six years - So / you can imagine how much I miss / him + how the Empty chair / opposite me suggests his absence / constantly _
Very sincerely yours
W. Irving Clark
P.S. The photograph will I fear / fade if exposed very long to the / light so to preserve it you had / better keep it in the envelope _
