Bordeaux, Feb’y 8th 1820. My dear Sir, I have written to our young [Bar-??-s] in New / York to have the drawings, measurements +c. taken and forwarded for you to the care of Mr. T W. Storrow, Rue de / faubourg [Poisonniere?] Paris, with whom you can settle / for any expense that may accrue. I don’t like to be [one will] & our ??] and / discourage men unnecery unnecessarily, for I must mitig / mitigate something of what I have said on the subject / of steamboats. There happens to be new in Bordeaux a / young gentlemen who is concerned in the [montreal?] / steam ferry boat at New York about which I have / written, & in what one of my brothers is largely interested / He tells me that it was for some time [unexce?]-ptable / stock in consequence of the blunders of made in construct - / ing boats to owing to inexperience, but that they can / now construct them for a fourth the original expense / and that the stock is very productive. It requires / however a great deal of travelling to make a steam / [END OF PAGE 1] Ferry boat profitable, and much will depend upon the / person employed in managing the boats +c. - I leave Bordeaux the day after tomorrow for mad / Madrid where I shall probably pafs some weeks / & then into other parts of Spain.
