Dear Sir,
I recd yours of 15th inclosing the Dft on Howe & Deforest for 180 93/–I think it worth your while to get Porters likeness without delay; and likewise to get a biographical sketch drawn out by some person who can write a neat article. [SYMBOL] I wish to begin upon Bainbridges & therefore will not be able to do Porters before it would be anticipated & made stale by other writers. His [ad] life has been adventurous & would abound with romantic particulars. I would dress up any article that should be furnished; but can not at present hunt up facts & do the dead colouring. I think it worth Your while to pay some job writer for the occasion, as it would be a very taking article at the present moment.
I am waiting with some impatience to hear from Mr Verplanck & to receive his biography of Trumbull. The work is at a stand for want of it.
Yours truly
W I.
W.I. was Washington Irving.
[SYMBOL] These articles were intended for the Analectic Magazine of which Mr Irving was then the Editor and I the publisher. M.T.
[LEFT SIDE] This being a business Letter, has no interest except from the fact of its ↑being↓ the handwriting of Washington Irving–I send it, not having an autograph except on one or two recent letters which it could not be taken from. M T.
