Description
Printed (in various types) and handwritten document, December 31, 1807; no title, text begins as follows: "The People (sic) OF THE STATE OF NEW-YORK (sic), by the Grace (sic) of GOD Free (sic) and Independent (sic): To all to whom these / Presents (sic) shall come, Greeting (sic)...Do give, grant and confirm unto Janet / Montgomery All (sic) that certain tract of land under water situate in the Town (sic) of Rhinebeck in the County of Dutchess Beginning (sic) at / a rock on the margin of Hudson's river being the Northwest (sic) corner of the farm of said Janet Montgomery and running thence into / said river north seventy eight degrees west thirty three chains to the edge of the channel then along the same south three degees and / thirty minutes west twenty three chains then south seventy eight degrees East (sic) to the shore of said river and then northerly along / the farm to the place of beginning...;" signature of "Daniel D. Tompkins" at lower right bottom; burgundy colored linen ribbon glued in diamond shape at bottom center; pencil lines on left and right sides of document; reverse (outside) folded in nine sections; "I have Examined (sic) the within Letters (sic) patent and do certify that the same are conformable to / the order and proceedings of the Commissions of the Land Office and in due form of Law (sic). / John Woodworth / Attr. (sic) Genl. (sic)" handwritten vertically in upper left corner; "Passed the Secretary's Office / the 31st day of December 1807 / Ben. Ford / Dep. (sic) Secry. (sic)" handwritten in lower left corner; "Fees $5." (underscored) / Letters Patent to Janet Montgomery for a Water Lot in Rhinebeck / Recorded in Lib. Pat. No. 24 page 248 &c" handwritten in center right section with linen tape tied and pasted below.
