Memo to Jack B. Collins
From Robert G. Wheeler
Subject: Map of Putnam and Dutchess County Lands, ca. 1702, / offered Sleepy Hollow Restorations for consideration . of purchase.
This survey map of present Putnam and southern Dutchess county, / drawn post 1702, shows boundaries of lands associated with / the Philipse and Van Cortlandt families. /
The boundary lines of Adolph Philipse's Highland Patent, / bordered to the east by Henry Beekman's lands in 1697, / and extended to the disputed Connecticut border by a / second deed, dated 1702. / 2. The Henry Beekman lands, or the "Back Lot Patent" of a 1697, / which included 4 present towns and part of a fifth in /southern Dutchess County. Henry Beekman was the grandfather / of Joanna Livingston van (sic) Cortlandt, and aunt of Lt-Gov. Pierre van (sic) / Cortlandt. Pierre was one of her heirs and during her / lifetime he managed certain of her affaires. / 3. The Rombout of Fishkill Patent, issued to the partners / Francis Rombout and Gulian Verplanck, and later, / Stephanus van (sic) Cortlandt by license in 1682, Indian deed / in 1683, and Crown Patent in 1685. / 4. The Great Nine Partners Patenet of 1697, issued to /Col. Caleb Heathcote, Maj. Augustin Graham, James Eliott, / Col. Filkin, David Jamison, Hendrick Ten Eyck, / John Aertson, William Creed, and Jarvis Marshall. / (Only the southern portion of this great patent is shown.) / The great tract of land - to the south of the Nine Partners Patent / and north of Westchester County, was held by Philipses, Van / Cortlandts, and their close relatives. This survey shows the land boundaries and the changes in these land boundaries between / 1696 and 1702. This is a unique piece.
Because of the relationship of this map to the properties and / families of Sleepy Hollow Restorations, it is recommended that / it be purchased.
