Note

In the exhibition " Agents of Faith: Votive Objects in Time and Place" (October 2018-January 2019) at the Bard Graduate Center, some very deep wooden molds similar to this were on view, together with wax figures taken from the molds. The figures were intended to be wax votive offerings in German Bavarian churches, often made with red beeswax. The related objects on loan for this show were from the Rudolf Kriss collection, Asbach Monastery, Bayerishes Nationalmusem, Munich (See object file for images of the figures). It is possible that this is not a candy or a cookie mold, but used for making these wax figures, particularly with the figure's hands in prayer [Jessa Krick, Assoc. Director of Collections, 6/19/2019].
